"XPat" SitCom Pilot, An American in Tokyo
XPat was conceived and created by Colorado Jones. The stories and characters come from some of his life experiences while he lived in Japan. XPat 1 "The Date" was the first episode in the series followed by XPat 2 "Country Road" and XPat 3 "Meat" in which Colorado focused mainly on directing instead of playing a character. Each episode is approximately 20min. long and each episode is split into two, ten-minute parts (after "Part 1" has ended "Part 2" should automatically start playing). All the XPat's were filmed on location in Japan with a great cast and and even greater hard working crew which made the series possible.
The producers of XPat are looking for a network home for this incredibly funny and crazy SitCom which promises an endless goldmine of hilarious episode possibilities! XPat 3 - Meat
"XPat 3, Meat" had a slightly higher budget and a seasoned production crew. After shooting XPat 1, XPat 2, Network TV shows and commercials and producing professional promotion videos, Colorado had become an experienced Producer and Director. With outstanding help from his Co-Producer Eric, Colorado managed to put together an episode that included a cast of fifteen, production crew of seven, six writers and five "real" locations around Tokyo. The XPat series also got some attention from the successful showings of the previous episodes and obtained a couple small sponsors and a creative talent pool of industry writers.
The XPat 3 story focused on the friends of Colorado Jones... the main focus being "Billy" the American baseball player who was picked up by a the Tokyo Giants. "Oz" the magician and Yukio also play major roles in the episode.
Funny production note: In scene 5 the "steak" became quite rancid after hours of shooting out in the hot sun and poor Rudolph (the actor who played "Billy") had to hold that thing up in the air in front of his face! Actually... it was quite funny :)

XPat 2 - Country Road
Colorado had found an absolutely beautiful traditional Japanese farm to film on and decided to make "XPat 2, Country Road". Colorado hoped to show parts of Japan including Tokyo and the countryside all the while creating an interesting story about Colorado's life in Japan. The beginning of this This XPat was shot with a lot of "Point and Shoot" type filming because Colorado was making his way through Tokyo but the cameraman Terry Press did an excellent job. The "timing" of the actual Typhoon that took place was... VERY tricky to say the least! :) and... we had no "wet" gear for the shoot so it was essential we didn't get the rented equipment wet or Uh Oh!
The funniest thing was... "?" actually did get stuck!! (watch and you'll see what I'm talking about). You can't believe how deep and sticky that is! Actually had to really have someone get me out of there or I really would have been stuck all night!
During the shoot I left an equipment bag on the local train from Tokyo to Mito. Guess what... that bag (with thousands of dollars of equipment in it) road 70 miles to Mito and back to the station where I waited... and nobody took it... that's Japan for ya.

XPat 1
- The Date
This was our first shot at creating Colorado's vision of a SitCom taking place in Tokyo and Japan. The cast and crew were semi-green but I think they did an exceptional job at pulling off the shoot. Everyone was so "into-it" we worked many days for long hours in the Tokyo hot and humid summer. This episode was to show the normal every day life of an XPat guy living in Tokyo... well... Colorado is not especially "normal".
Colorado's apartment is a typical Tokyo sized (cramped) flat and he makes it much worse by cleaning only once a... once a... well, never. It was very difficult for Terry and Eric to shoot in this cramped apartment and we were stepping all over each other! On day three of the shoot my second actor called in sick so Manuel (our sound and grip) jumped in to take his place... not much acting though... just had to show his legs :)
Finding a store "location" was also quite a chore as most quiet Japanese Mom and Pop stores don't want a crazy bunch of foreigners shooting "whatever" in their store! However, we found a very nice man who let up shoot in his "Has Everything" store near Nakano.
