This original painting was done to capture the beauty of the shores of Maui.  Gretchen first did a study in pastel while outdoors on the beach of this beautiful scene.  It was then painted in oils at home on her deck, outside.  The values of color and harmony delight our senses, and the blue tones give us inward peace of mind.  The great melodic values such as we find here have the power to provide us with a vital experience of a place we all value, and to elevate as well as impress our minds. "Mystery Island" includes a beautiful gold, wooden frame.
