Illumination of "H"
This ink drawing is in the style of Ehrmann who perfected the art of illuminating a manuscript. This "H" was done for an anniversary, and the heart was added, in the center, with the names of the bride and groom along with the date of marriage. The artist, Gretchen Kirstel, creates her own original art out of letters using line drawing and stippling. The lines are drawn using a ruler, however, the majority of work is free-hand. Stippling is a technique where numerous dots/specks are used to create a decorative effect, shading, and a sparkle effect. The artist is proficient in illuminating any letter, and has used this technique for over twenty years.
