"Four Mothers"

Artist: Gretchen Kirstel        Medium: Colored Pencils on Paper          Size: 11" X 14"       Date: 2009

The idea for "Four Mothers" came about in an extraordinary way.  Gretchen belongs to an art group called WHISTA.  One evening they met to create some Russian eggs, where you take wax and draw your picture on the egg with fine pens and then dip them into die.  She had completed "Four Mothers" on the raw egg, when it broke! She loved the idea for it so she completed it on paper with colored pencils, purely from imagination.  Many people have commented on how much they loved the picture with the four mothers cuddling their precious babies.
